Millennium Coastal Park
In the summer 2000, Llanelli was centre stage in the nations celebration of the new Millennium. The town's coastline, for so long blighted by dozens of Victorian steel mills and tinplate works, has been transformed. Occupying 22km of coastline on the Burry Estuuary and overlooking the Gower peninsula, the spectacular Millennium Coastal Park features an array of unique attractions linked together by a continuous traffic free cycle/footpath. The Park is expected to attract over one million people a year, making it one of the most popular visitor destinations in Britain, and a major centre for different cultural and leisure activities.
The Coastal Park offers many unique features including a continuous traffic-free cycle/footpath, the National Wetlands Centre for Wales, and a championship links golf course. Burry Port and Pembre harbour’s plus Millennium Quay and the Discovery Centre.
The park attracts over one million visitors a year, which makes it one of the most popular visitor destinations in the UK, as well as a centre for a host of outdoor pursuits.
The park was won a number of national Design and the enviromental awards, in 2004 it won the Amazing Space Helping Hand Award for the biggest transformation by a Lottery funded project.
Sandy water Park - The Water Park is situated in the heart of the Coastal Park, it consists of a large manmade lake and is surrounded with beautiful rolling parkland and trees. The entire site was once home to heavy Industry includeing one of the Llanelli's great Steel works.
