Appeal for help

People in Trimsaran are being asked to help stop hooligans from damaging the football pitch.

Over the past few months, youngsters have been driving cars, motorbikes and quad bikes over the pitch churning up and damaging the surface.

Trimsaran AFC had to call off their friendly game this week as the surface of the pitch had been damaged too badly for them to play.

Repairs and measures to stop the practice have cost thousands of pounds of taxpayers money, but to no avail.

Now residents are being asked to help by reporting any incidents or passing on any information they have about the culprits.

Both the county council and police have taken action but the vandals have continued to cause problems.

Council street scene officers have installed wooden bollards at the rear of Garden Suburbs several times to stop vehicles getting access to the pitch.

However, every time they are put up they are removed by the young hooligans, costing council taxpayers money each time.

Vehicles are also getting onto the field from near Trimsaran Leisure Centre, the council is now planning to put some large block stone at the location – again at a cost – to prevent access.

Police also regularly patrol the area and respond to any complaints about the damage or nuisance caused.

Carmarthenshire’s environment executive board member Cllr Haydn Jones said: “We are appealing to people living in Trimsaran to help us stop these hooligans.

“Their mindless behaviour is costing thousands of pounds of taxpayers money, has led to football games being cancelled and is a serious nuisance for all those living in the area.

“We are urging people who see anything, or who have any information about the vandals who are causing these problems, to report it to the police and help us put a stop to this destruction.”

Carmarthenshire’s Community Safety Partnership is also working to tackle anti-social behaviour in the area.

Dyfed Powys Police Inspector James Davies said: “We will continue to provide targeted patrols in the area and would ask that the local community report any incidents and indeed offenders if they know them, to the police who will take positive action.”
