Bravery Honoured

- 17 January 2008

Imagine the surprise a Trimsaran veteran of the Second World War received at the beginning of the year when a large envelope arrived on the doorstep of his home.Inside the envelope postmarked London SW1 was a letter from the British Ambassador to the Netherlands, to inform me that I had received a medal and certificate of honour for extreme valour shown in liberating towns and villages in Holland from enemy forces.

Similar medals and certificates had been received by fellow British and Canadian allied service personnel in conflict during the latter stages of the war in occupied territory.

I have kept close contact with the British Legion and in particular the ex-servicemen's group in Burry Port over the years and I've paid for regular visits to Normandy and the war graves in France and Belgium.

The honour is not only well deserved but reflects the good name of Trimsaran, adopted as my second home after so many years exile from my native Hampshire.
