Albert Hall Honour

- 18 September 2008

A Talented Trimsaran soloist is set to sing her heart out in the Albert Hall — thanks to the help of Burry Port Male Voice Choir.

Members of the choir nominated Eirlys Davies to take part in a concert in Neath earlier this month.

The concert saw nominees competing for the chance to win £1,000 and the opportunity to sing at the hall next year.

The Ysgol y Strade sixth-former was presented with a cheque and told of her chance to sing at the venue on Monday evening during the town choir's rehearsal.

The association's vice-chairwoman Sue Morris was due to make the presentation.

Choir secretary Illtyd Beynon, of Trimsaran, said: "We're very proud of Eirlys's achievement.

"We first met her after she invited the choir to a concert she was taking part in Five Roads.

"We were so impressed we agreed to nominate her so she could take part in the concert in Neath and we're delighted she won. We will be presenting her with a cheque for £1,000 on behalf of the choir association and as part of the prize she will be singing in the Albert Hall next April, which is a great honour."
